Our Mission
Second Chance Ministries exists to offer hope, healing, and new beginnings by walking alongside women transitioning from incarceration, empowering youth, and strengthening families through faith, support, and meaningful connections.
Our Story
The Second Chance Ministry evolved from Mother Evangelist Catherine Williams having a prison ministry. Mother would minister to the women at Washington County Regional Correctional Facility every 1st and 3rd Sundays. After she and her husband Pastor Moses Williams joined Unity Faith Church, the prison ministry became a part of Unity Faith Church and was none as such. Mother Williams felt the need to begin to prepare to pass her prison mantle on to the next person and she called on Minister Martha Joiner to come along side her of this journey .
What began as a Prison Ministry, sharing hope behind walls, fostered relationships and genuine care for the women. Mother would always tell them that God loved them and cared about everyone one of them.
Some were nearing their release date with nowhere to go. This became concern for us as well as for the women incarcerated. We began to talk about having a transition home. The women were even through around names for the house, one in particular being Catherine's House.
Mother, as they would affectionately call her passed on to glory. Her work was done here on earth. The time came for the prison mantle to be taken up by Minister Joiner. The test came and what had ben talked about, happened. One of our women was being released with nowhere to go!
The place where the Second Chance Ministry is now housed actually was Full Gospel Church. Pastor Moses and Catherine Williams were the overseers there. They retired and sold the property to Unity Faith Church. Praise God!
The cry of the heart came forth to God to open a door for our first resident, but God already had a plan. He was calling us to join Him in His work, and we answered the call. The Pastor was aware of us having a desire to have somewhere for the ladies to go. He said to Minister Joiner, "What can we do?" Her answer was to use the fellowship hall. "As we went forth, I got a bed and a chair, then other begin to donate household items," said Minister Joiner. They purchased all that was needed to function as a transition home. The first resident came in December 2020. "The vision evolved with the help of Mother Willliams, Minister Joiner, women of WCRCF, Pastor Davis and Unity Faith Church.
We are now Second Chance Ministries, Inc. Our ministry continues to evolve. We are now reaching out to families. Our moto is, "Changing one life at a time, one family at a time!"
